Finding Passion in Your Work

It’s been said that if you love your work, it’s not really work. I have been fortunate to have had that in my life, first as a dancer, now as a cat groomer and franchise owner. I have always loved animals. They have always been a big part of my life. As a dancer in a small ballet company I was privileged to have had so many fantastic roles that I will never forget. There is nothing like the curtain opening and taking command of the stage, where anything can happen. Flying through the air to the most fantastic, dramatic music. I remember driving home one night late from the theater and saying to myself, that if I died tomorrow I would be OK. I knew what heaven must be like.  It was the most soul moving adventure I could ever have. The life long friendships, touring, and yes, even the aches and pains were worth every second.

I was not sure what I was going to do with myself when I could no longer dance. My body was giving out, injuries started to happen, and although I knew my time was coming to an end, it was a hard realization.  Who was I without being a dancer? I felt lost and very depressed. And then I thought why not take my love of cats and turn it into a business. I can’t say it is as exciting as being on stage, but I can say I have found a niche for myself, a service that was sorely needed. I adore the cats that come in and the people that care for them. It is rewarding to take care of them, pamper them and help owners take better care of them. I am passionate about what I do. I’m not grooming as much anymore as I proceed on with the franchise business, but I still love my time in the salon. It’s rewarding to educate owners on subjects that  help their cats live a better quality of life. And I think they appreciate that.

So I turned in my pointe shoes for Crocs! Not as glamorous, but very fun. And I continue to study and learn about one of the greatest creatures on earth___the cat. I love passing on this information to clients and through my seminars and writings, as well as radio shows. My favorite cats are the elderly ones, with their achy joints, much like mine, and endearing personalities. They have seen a lot, experienced a lot, and very wise.

I hope you are living a life you are passionate about. Life is too short to not do so. Take a chance and reap the rewards. You will be happier and life will be more rewarding!
