Adrienne with cats

So many people have asked me over the years to teach them cat grooming after one of my seminars or start a cat grooming school. I have always thought I was not going to do it, but the requests have been more and more frequent so I have decided to start a cat grooming academy.

I will be using the Professional Cat Groomers Association study guides and teaching a 2 week course on cat grooming with a holistic approach. After 13 years of cat grooming I am looking forward to this new challenge. It will be fun to take students on the journey of learning so many aspects of the cat.

Grooming is a lot more than just knowing how to comb or even shave a cat. There is anatomy, behavior, breeds, health and much more. The more educated you are the better groomer you can be. It is inspiring even for me to take classes from others. Everyone has their own innovative ways of dealing with cats and you always learn something. Just when I think I know it all , wham! And I love it.

I invest time and money into my career because I respect the industry and always want to do a better job for my clients. It’s important to stay inspired. There is the burnout factor. This is an industry where 7 years is the average for a groomer to last. It is physically and emotionally draining. You are not working with inanimate objects. You have to be on a heightened sense of alertness all the time. These guys can bite, and will do so as soon as you re not paying attention.

I have had a couple clients spend a few hours with us to see what it was like and they always go away with a healthy respect for what we do. One client who always complained about the price did stay with us for a few hours. When she left she said she hated to admit it, but that we don’t charge enough! She was exhausted.

Cat grooming separates the wimps from the fearless. It’s not for everybody. I am hoping to find some good potential groomers out of the school who want to make this a career move. I would love to mentor them on to a rising profession in the pet world. I look forward to my new challenge.

I wanted to thank you for making our Nora look and feel so good. As I am typing this she is sitting on a shelf she hasn't been able to jump to in a long time. She is grooming herself again and getting around so much better. Thanks again, Anna Drake
